Operating Principle
The test measures the loss of adhesion strength by subjecting a coated test specimen to a jet of water at a specified pressure.
The extent of damage to the specimen depends on factors such as adhesion strength, the distance between the nozzle and the specimen, volumetric flow rate, test duration, nozzle geometry, impact area, impact angle, water temperature, and the cutting/scoring tools used. Evaluation is performed via visual comparison of images, correlating characteristic values with the area of delamination. The separation interface (plane) of the delaminated material must be noted in the test report (e.g., substrate/primer).

Equipment Overview
This waterproof testing equipment features an integrated cabinet structure divided into three sections: the upper test chamber, the lower mechanical compartment, and the right-side electrical control cabinet. Both the inner and outer casings are constructed from SUS304 stainless steel, utilizing precision manufacturing processes. Internal components, such as the sample rack and accessories, are also made of stainless steel, ensuring a robust and durable design. The system comprises a high-pressure water spray assembly, a rotating test platform, and an electrical control unit.
The sample rack is designed to support a load of 20 kg and offers 360-degree horizontal rotation. The drive mechanism features a precision design powered by a stepper motor and reduction gear; rotation speed is set directly via a touchscreen interface and managed by a PLC controller, ensuring simple operation and eliminating the inconsistencies and complexities associated with manual adjustments found in similar equipment. A conductive slip ring is installed beneath the turntable, allowing the sample to remain powered during rotation; the test specimen can be connected to an external 10A, 10–24V DC power supply without impeding turntable rotation, with a voltage drop of less than 2V.
Requirements for Test Specimens
Ideally, the test specimens should be flat. The size of the specimens and the number of tests to be performed are determined by the testing personnel.
Adhesive strength may vary across the specimen; therefore, it is recommended to test different areas of the specimen.
Test Conditions
After inserting the test specimen into the instrument, use a spacer block to calibrate the distance between the specimen and the nozzle. Operate the pressurized water jet apparatus at room temperature. Three test methods are preferred.
Note: Use deionized water for the test.
