ASTM F1319 BS 1006 ISO 105 JIS L0849 Friction Color Fastness Testing Instrument
Introduction
This instrument is of an integrated design. It mainly consists of a base, a friction transmission mechanism and a counter. The sample and sandpaper are fixed on one side of the base using a sample holder. By turning the handle, the friction head filled with white cotton cloth moves back and forth on the sample for a specified stroke. This causes the white cotton cloth and the sample to rub against each other. After ten repetitions of friction, the degree of color adhesion on the white cotton cloth is observed and compared using a gray card to evaluate the stability of the dyeing or surface coating of the fabric sample. This provides reference data for the assessment and selection of materials. This instrument is mainly used in industries such as cotton, wool, linen, silk, knitting, and printing and dyeing, and is used as a testing instrument for determining the dry and wet rubbing color fastness of various fabric colors in the tests.

Measurement steps
3.1 Sample Preparation:
3.1.1 The samples and standard friction test cloths need to be conditioned in a constant temperature and humidity environment.
3.1.2 When the samples have multiple colors, all the colors should be rubbed.
3.1.3 If the areas of various colors are large enough, separate samples should be taken.
3.1.4 Cut the samples and conduct dry and wet friction tests. Ensure that all colors are rubbed.
3.1.5 If the front and back sides of the sample are made of different materials or have different colors, both the front and back sides should undergo the color fastness to friction test.
3.1.6 The dry and wet friction tests should not be repeated in the same part of the sample.
3.2 Dry Friction:
3.2.1 Place the sample flat on the friction tester with the length direction of the sample aligned with the moving direction of the instrument and fix the sample on the pressure plate. The sample should be placed flatly.
3.2.2 Fix the standard friction white cloth on the friction head, clamp it with a spring clip, and gently place the friction head on the sample.
3.2.3 Ensure that the sample does not slide or wrinkle during friction.
3.2.4 Place the friction head on the sample. Turn on the power supply, press the POWER key. Set the number of tests.
3.2.5 Press the START button to start the test. When the number of tests reaches the set value, the instrument will automatically stop.
3.2.6 Remove the standard friction white cotton cloth, and use the color comparison card for comparison and rating.
3.3 Wet friction:
3.3.1 Completely immerse the standard friction white cloth in distilled water;
3.3.2 After removing it, place it between filter paper and squeeze it to achieve a certain moisture content;
3.3.3 The remaining steps are the same as those in the dry friction test;
3.4 Result processing:
3.4.1 Before rating, gently remove the loose fibers on the friction white cloth with transparent tape;
3.4.2 Place three unused friction white cloths under the white cloth to be rated, and refer to the standard color-matching gray card to evaluate the color-matching grade of the friction white cloth.
3.5 Test Report:
3.5.1 Standard Reporting Method
3.5.2 Report the results of both dry friction and wet friction separately.
