Instrument Overview
The LR-TMA108 Thermomechanical Analyzer is an instrument that utilizes Thermomechanical Analysis (TMA) to investigate the mechanical properties of various materials. It is capable of measuring the temperature-deformation curves of materials under conditions of constant heating rates, thereby enabling the determination of key parameters such as the coefficient of thermal expansion, glass transition temperature (Tg), and flow temperature (Tf). Furthermore, by incorporating auxiliary accessories, it can also be used to test properties such as the Vicat Softening Temperature (VST) of thermoplastic polymers.
In addition to measuring the coefficient of thermal expansion, the Thermomechanical Analyzer is capable of detecting glass transitions that are often undetectable by Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC)—specifically in materials where segmental motion is restricted, such as highly cross-linked polymers or highly filled polymer blends. Its measurement sensitivity is significantly higher than that of the DSC method. The instrument offers a selection of testing modes under various stress conditions—including compression, bending, tension, penetration, and expansion—making it applicable to a wide range of fields and sample types, such as coatings, fibers, films, bulk solids, soft or rigid polymers, and single-crystalline substances.
The LR-TMA108 features enhanced functionality, including automatic lifting and lowering of the sample holder, as well as an automatic stop mechanism. This design optimizes the workflow by eliminating the need to manually adjust the load position for different testing methods; consequently, it enables the measurement of the coefficient of thermal expansion, Tg, Tf, and VST—all from a single, fixed load position. Both the connecting sleeve and the load components are fabricated from nickel alloy, resulting in a significant improvement in both testing efficiency and measurement accuracy.
