1.Description:
The functions of coatings are divided into three aspects: protection, decoration, and concealment of product defects. These three functions are mainly closely related to the hardness of the coating. The hardness of the paint film is one of the important properties indicating the mechanical strength of the paint film and an important indicator for evaluating the quality of coating products. An important indicator for measuring the hardness of the paint film is the determination of scratch resistance.
Products that have been coated are inevitably scratched by hard objects during packaging, transportation and use. Paint films that are not resistant to scratches often leave marks or even get broken, which not only affects the decorative effect but also makes the paint film lose its protective function. Therefore, people need a testing method and evaluation standard for the scratch resistance of coatings that can be recognized by both the supply and demand sides to determine the grade of scratches and the type of defects.
Before 2015, there was only one relevant national standard in China, GB/T 9279-2007 "Scratch Test for Paints and Varnishes", which was used to determine the resistance of paint films to needle penetration. This was not very conducive to evaluating the scratch resistance of different coatings under different usage environments. After re-revision, this scratch standard was divided into two types: One is the constant load type, that is, during the scratch test, the load of the scratch needle loaded on the test plate remains unchanged, and the test result is expressed by the maximum load at which the scratch needle does not scratch the coating; Another type is variable load, that is, during the scratch test, the load of the scratch needle loaded on the test plate gradually increases from 0. The test result is calculated by measuring the distance between the final load point and the point where the scratch just appears, and the critical load at the point where the scratch just appears on the test plate is expressed.
As the main drafter of this scratch standard, Biaogeda Company has developed instruments that comply with this standard. After extensive verification tests by multiple research institutions, it has been unanimously recognized as having very high reproducibility and comparability.
