ASTM D698 ASTM D1557 Portable Non-Nuclear Soil Density Gauge

Portable non-radioactive soil compaction tester for subgrade earthwork, serving as an alternative to nuclear density gauge and sand cone method.

Principle of Operation

Utilizes electromagnetic EDG technology. Four metal probes are inserted into soil to measure dielectric properties of the soil medium. Calculates wet density, dry density, moisture content and compaction ratio. Soil model calibration is required before testing using sand cone method reference points. Compliant with ASTM D698 and ASTM D1557 standards.

Main Applications

Highway, municipal road, dam, building foundation, and trench backfill compaction inspection. Suitable for fine-grained soil, lime/cement stabilized soil.

Not recommended for soil with large-size rock fragments, voids, or embedded metal debris.
