Overview
X-ray fluorescence (XRF) sulfur analyzers are quantitative analysis instruments used in industries such as petroleum, coal, building materials, metallurgy, and mining. They are primarily used to measure total sulfur (S) content in materials including petroleum and its products, coal, cement, and carbon black. Because they employ physical analysis methods, they offer advantages such as rapid analysis, no need for complex sample pretreatment, high precision, minimal human error, low operator labor intensity, and zero pollution; consequently, they are widely used and have largely superseded traditional chemical analysis methods.
The DM1262 Portable EDXRF Sulfur Analyzer (full name: DM1262 Energy Dispersive X-Ray Fluorescence Portable Sulfur Analyzer) was developed by the company based on decades of research experience in XRF analyzers and the foundation of the earlier DM1260 model (of which over 1,000 units have been sold). Like the DM1260, it utilizes EDXRF analysis technology, a miniature X-ray tube as the excitation source, a gas-filled proportional counter with a thin beryllium window, secondary filters, and a specialized optical path system. It features automatic C/H ratio correction, suitability for diverse sample types, an integrated design, large data storage capacity, and rapid, accurate analysis.

The DM1262 EDXRF portable sulfur analyzer was developed as an upgraded model to meet the requirements for rapid on-site sulfur content analysis in petroleum products and to comply with the 2019 version of the GB/T 17040 standard. In addition to retaining the advantages of the original DM1260 model, the following significant improvements have been made:
(1) The original proportional counter was replaced with a proportional counter featuring a lower background and a thinner window. The distances and angles between the radiation source, detector, and sample were adjusted, as was the thickness of the secondary filter.
(2) The fixed X-ray source was replaced with an adjustable X-ray source, allowing the high voltage and current to be tuned based on the sulfur content being measured. The target material of the X-ray tube was also changed.
(3) The original simple multi-channel pulse height analyzer was replaced with a newly designed digital multi-channel pulse height analyzer utilizing FPGA and DSP technologies; this reduced dead time, increased count throughput, and decreased both weight and volume.
(4) The X-ray tube and high-voltage unit were integrated into a single assembly, further reducing weight and volume.
(5) The original small-scale circuitry was replaced with a new large-scale integrated circuit (CPU), and vertical circuit components were replaced with surface-mount technology (SMT) components. A lithium-ion battery was adopted to replace the switching power supply.
Improvements (1), (2), and (3) lowered the background noise and increased sensitivity, thereby significantly lowering the detection limit to 2.6 ppm (300s). This enables the analyzer to fully meet the PLOQ (Practical Limit of Quantitation) requirement of 16 ppm specified in the 2019 version of GB/T 17040. It also complies with the relevant requirements of the national standard GB 17411 and the US national standard ASTM D4294. Improvements (3), (4), and (5) drastically reduced the weight and volume of the analyzer.
The DM1262 EDXRF portable sulfur analyzer is a compact and lightweight instrument, weighing approximately 5 kg (including battery and printer). It is easy to carry and requires no gas, vacuum, or sample dilution, making it particularly suitable for rapid on-site testing and analysis. The launch of the DM1262 EDXRF portable sulfur analyzer represents a significant milestone in our company's continuous improvement, ensuring we maintain our long-standing domestic leadership in the field of X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analyzers.
Features
Fast and Accurate – Rapid measurement; results are typically available within tens of seconds. Offers high repeatability and reproducibility.
Low Detection Limit – Utilizes EDXRF technology, a low-background proportional counter with a thin beryllium window, and secondary filters to achieve a low detection limit.
Compact and Lightweight – Weighs only approximately 5.2 kg (including battery and printer). Operates in an ambient atmosphere without auxiliary equipment, making it ideal for rapid on-site testing.
Long Battery Life – Features ultra-low power consumption and uses a lithium-ion battery for extended continuous operation.
High Adaptability – Includes automatic C/H ratio correction and matrix effect correction, making it suitable for various sample types. Automatic working curve switching accommodates a wide measurement range.
Long-term Stability – Employs a variable-gain digital multi-channel analyzer with functions such as automatic PHA adjustment and drift correction, ensuring excellent long-term stability.
Eco-friendly and Energy-efficient– Radiation protection meets exemption standards. Non-destructive analysis requires no sample contact, produces no pollution, and eliminates the need for chemical reagents or combustion.
Ease of Use – Touchscreen operation. Simply load the sample into the cup, place it in the instrument, and press the [Start] button—enabling true one-touch operation.
High Reliability – Integrated design with high component integration; offers strong environmental adaptability, high interference resistance, and superior reliability.
Data Storage and Transfer – Stores massive amounts of data with power-loss protection; data can be viewed at any time and transferred to a PC.
