Equipment Usage
Powder Compaction Density Tester - This instrument is suitable for testing the compacted density of various powder particles under single-point or multiple-point pressure/pressure conditions.
Working Principle
During the compression process by external force, as the powder moves and deforms, larger pores are filled, the contact area between particles increases, causing an attraction between atoms and enhancing the mechanical bonding between particles. Thus, a compact with a certain density and strength is formed.
The formula for calculating the compacted density: Compacted density = Surface density / Thickness of the material
During the design of lithium-ion batteries, the compaction density = surface density / (final thickness of the electrode sheet - thickness of the current collector), with the unit being g/cm³.
The compaction density is divided into: the anode density (also known as the positive electrode compaction density) and the cathode density (also known as the negative electrode compaction density).
During the manufacturing process of lithium-ion power batteries, the compaction density has a significant impact on the battery performance. The compaction density is closely related to the sheet specific capacity, efficiency, internal resistance, and the battery's cycling performance.
The greater the compaction density, the higher the capacity of the battery can be. Therefore, compaction density is also regarded as a reference indicator for the energy density of the material.
