ASTM D8120 PQ Iron Content Analyzer Iron Debris Particles Test Machine Laboratory PQ Metal Iron Content Tester
Applicable Standards
ASTM D8120 "Standard Test Method for Quantification of Iron Debris Particles"
SH/T6023 "Quantitative Test Method for Ferromagnetic Wear Particles in Lubricants"
Development Background
Wear metal analysis in used oil is a crucial component of equipment oil monitoring systems. However, previously widely used methods for analyzing wear debris content have significant drawbacks and limitations. For example, while the rotating disc electrode atomic emission spectrometer can accurately measure the concentration of small metal particles in oil, its limitations in carrying capacity and excitation energy prevent it from quantitatively detecting large particles larger than 10 micrometers. Therefore, it cannot accurately reflect the true content of metal wear debris in the oil. While direct-reading ferrography can detect larger ferromagnetic particles, its reported results are only a relative coefficient, not the actual concentration of ferromagnetic wear debris, making data interpretation and analysis inconvenient for users. Furthermore, direct-reading ferrography is complex to operate, time-consuming, and requires the use of toxic and harmful reagents, causing significant inconvenience to users. To address these problems and shortcomings, and to provide users with a fast, accurate, and easy-to-operate instrument for determining iron debris content in oil, a new generation of automatic ferromagnetic wear debris content analyzer has been developed. It utilizes electromagnetic induction technology, offering very high sensitivity and repeatability. It can accurately measure the content of ferromagnetic metal wear particles in various oil samples within seconds, and the measurement results are directly expressed as actual concentration values (mg/L or ppm), greatly facilitating data interpretation and analysis for users.
Measurement Principle
The system has a built-in sensitive electromagnetic coil. When a sample is placed in the magnetic field, the ferromagnetic particles in the oil will cause a change in the magnetic field signal strength. The magnitude of the electromagnetic induction intensity is highly correlated with the content of ferromagnetic wear debris in the sample.
Main Features
1. Extremely high measurement sensitivity: The lowest detection limit for ferromagnetic wear debris content in oil can reach 1 ppm.
2. Ultra-fast measurement speed: From sample injection to data generation takes only a few seconds, making it easy to handle large sample volumes.
3. Easy Operation: The instrument is exceptionally easy to operate and can be mastered in just a few minutes without professional training.
4. Compact Structure: The instrument has a compact structure, small size, and is robust and vibration-resistant.
5. Suitable for Various Samples: It can analyze the content of ferromagnetic wear debris in various mineral oils, synthetic oils, hydraulic oils, gear oils, and greases.
6. Safe and Environmentally Friendly: No sample preparation or cleaning solvents are required, making it safe and environmentally friendly, posing no health risks to the user.
7. Operating Software: Windows system, with data recording, querying, calibration, and trend analysis functions.
