Technical Points of the Rain Test Chamber from IPX1 to IPX8

The IIPX1-8 rain test chamber is a comprehensive waterproof testing equipment. It can simulate different levels of rain spray environments and conduct waterproof performance tests on the test samples. It is designed and manufactured in accordance with the IEC 60529 standard issued by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), as well as Chinese national standards such as GB4208. It can perform tests for eight waterproof levels ranging from IPX1 to IPX8.

The IPX1-8 rain test chamber is suitable for testing the protection grades of the enclosures of various products such as electrical products, outdoor lighting, outdoor lamps, household appliances, communication products, signaling devices and automotive lamps. 

I. Waterproofing Grade and Testing Standards

lIPX1: Prevent vertical dripping of water. During the test, the sample should be placed vertically, and the water dropper should drip water onto the sample at a certain speed to ensure that the sample is not damaged.

lIPX2: Prevent vertical dripping of water when the housing is tilted within 15°. During the test, the sample should be tilted by 15°, and the water dropper should also drip water onto the sample at a certain speed.

lIPX3: Waterproof against dripping water. During the test, the swing pipe device should drip water onto the sample at a certain angle and speed to simulate the scenario of rainwater soaking.

lIPX4: Waterproof against splashing water. During the test, the water spray device should spray water onto the sample at a certain pressure and angle to simulate the scene of water splashing.

lIPX5: Waterproof against jetting water. During the test, the water spray device should spray water onto the sample at a higher pressure and a wider angle to simulate a strong jetting water environment.

lIPX6: Waterproof against intense jetting water. During the test, the water spray device should spray water onto the sample at high pressure and different angles to simulate the water spraying environment.

lIPX7: Waterproof against short-term immersion impact. During the test, the sample should be immersed in water under specified pressure for a certain period of time and then removed to check if the sample is waterlogged or damaged.

lIPX8: Waterproof against continuous submersion impact. During the test, the sample should be submerged under specified conditions for a certain period of time and then removed, and the same check should be conducted to see if the sample is waterlogged or damaged. This grade is usually used for testing products that need to be submerged in water for a long time.
