1. Introduction
Differential thermal analysis (DTA) is a technique for measuring the temperature difference and temperature relationship between a substance and its reference material under programmed temperature control. dTA curves describe the temperature (∆T) between a sample and a reference material as a function of temperature or time. In DTA testing, the change in sample temperature is caused by the endothermic or exothermic effects of a phase change or reaction. Examples include: phase change, melting, crystal structure transformation, boiling, sublimation, evaporation, dehydrogenation, rupture or decomposition reactions, oxidation or reduction reactions, lattice structure disruption, and other chemical reactions.
